Swing Nite with Devan Jones & The Uptown Stomp

Devan Jones brought The Uptown Stomp together as a band in early 2013. The primary sound is Swangin??? Blues, Ragtime & Jazz from the 1930s through the 1950s. And it???s not just the tunes that are vintage ??? much of the equipment used is from his collection of audio electronics from this same time period. These old amplifiers and microphones give the music a rich mellow sound that cannot be reproduced on modern digital equipment.

The band is comprised of young, gifted, formally trained musicians from in and around Knoxville, TN. Though not all members of The Uptown Stomp perform for every gig, they are all very talented. The Uptown Stomp is supported by the styling of bassist Clint Mullican and drummer Hunter Deacon and tenor / baritone saxophonist Chuck Mullican. In addition to these three very skilled artists, the band features other local jazz greats such as pianist Keith Brown. Often times harmonica player Paul Mcquade will join the group on the heavy hitting blues numbers. Devan Jones rounds things out with stellar work on guitar and vocals. This group plays great music from an earlier time; music that crawls up under your skin and makes you want to move to the beat; music that begs you to get up and dance.

Their set list includes tunes from greats such as Fats Waller, Elmore James, Charlie Christian and Muddy Waters. Along with some originals in a similar style.

Recent venues where The Uptown Stomp has performed include The Square Room, Smoky Mountain Brewery, Scruffy City Hall, Sweet P???s BBQ and Soul House, Preservation Pub, Boyd???s Jig and Reel, Barley???s Maryville, Barleys Knoxville and the Relix Variety Theatre. The band has also made appearances on the WDVX Blue Plate Special. WDVX Tennessee Shines Radio Show, Knoxville Art Musium's "Alive After Five" Series. Recent regional performances include the ???Sunset Series??? at The Heritage Center in Townsend and at the Rose Center in Morristown.
