About In the Whale, Continental

In The Whale originally formed in the small town of Greeley, Colorado as a fun escape from their main bands. When those bands dissolved, it quickly became their focus, and in February of 2011 they moved to Denver to be a part of the music scene and try to build a legitimate fan base.

Since their move, they have been the name on everyone's lips, as an answer to the current musical climate of too much reverb and not enough balls. The band started 2012 with an EP release show, selling out the Hi-Dive, a 300 capacity venue and the go to spot for up and coming Denver bands. The EP, "Cake," is dirty and aggressive, yet surprisingly light-hearted (think Eagles of Death Metal meets The White Stripes).

With an absolutely undeniable live show and a tenacious work ethic, this local Denver band won't be local for long.

Hailing from the Hallowed grounds of the garage at 123 Centre Street (former home of the "Dropkick Murphy's" and "Everybody Out") comes Rick Barton's latest and greatest incarnation "Continental." Continental will never be defined by a particular genre. They blend a unique style of rock, folk, country and blues to as closely follow Gram Parsons mission of "Cosmic American Music." Some of the initial comparisons have been to Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and The Velvet Underground. Continental will be a touring, starving, and hard working band coming to your town. Will have sleeping bags, will need floor space. The end of an era with the destruction of the legendary garage space at 127 Centre St. Quincy MA. This is the room I've toiled many hours in and often spent lonely nights trying to sleep amongst the wild cats and raccoons! We all need certain fixtures in our lives and that crappy old garage was mine. Unfortunately our family was broke and we had to sell the property. Life is constantly evolving and so is music. The memories will always remain. The future will always hold endless possibilities. So we move on now, still a garage band in spirit. Still carrying that Torch! - Rick
