About Americana Live! Showcase: Zack Walther Band Scott Wiggins & Waiting' On Hayden
The Zack Walther Band is an Americana roots rock power trio from New Braunfels, Texas. As versatile is the Texas landscape, the Zack Walther Band can rock the house with high energy, or slow it down with story songs from their life experiences. Zack Walther on lead guitar, vocals and harmonica combined with Matthew Briggs on drums, glockenspiel, tambourine and vocals; and Corey Shelter on bass and vocals -- they make more music than many five-piece bands. Zack and Matthew have been friends since the third grade, and making music together since junior high -- they “finish each other”. They’ve recorded several studio and live records over the years, their music is currently being used on two cable television outdoor shows, and they tour around Texas where their fans never seem to get enough.
Scott is a seasoned Texas Country artists who has cut his teeth for over a decade all accross Texas and surrounding states in bars, dancehalls, and amphitheaters. Scott has sharerd the stage with some of the Texas giants like Pat Green, Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, Casey Donahew, Jason Boland, Cory Morrow, Josh Abbott, Charlie Robison, and many more.
Scott has released 4 studio albums spanning from 2005-2015 releases, as well has releasing a few solo songs into 2016 and 2017. He has had multiple songs in the top 10 and top 15 of the Texas music charts and has a steady and growing fan base.
With is powerful voice and honest lyrics Scott has a song for every occasion. Scott prides himself on songwriting and working his best to keep his voice in shape. He's been called a smooth Country crooner, but he can also belt out the party songs when needed.
Growing up in the 90s some of Scott's biggest infuences are George Strait and Garth Brooks. He's also a big fan of Gary Allan. Scott plays a lot of original music, but you can bet he will play some crowd favorites from the artists mentined above as well as some Country music Icons like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and others.
Many years ago, two Texas brothers from the small town of La Vernia, Rusty and Darrell, had a vision of starting a band. But they were always told it was an unreasonable dream and that they would never succeed. One day Rusty decided to travel down that road, regardless of the outcome. He bought an old guitar and an amp from a friend and began teaching himself how to play. Before long, Darrell decided to start learning to play as well, and after a few months and another second-hand guitar purchase, the two piece band was formed. "I bought an old 4 string bass guitar from a pawn shop and learned how to play it." said Rusty, "Darrell and I used to sit out in the backyard on Saturday nights at our parent's house and play til our mom would get mad at us for being too loud".
After a few years of playing together, the duo decided to take the band to the next level and eventually brought in their good friend Hayden Krueger as a lead guitarist, who brought a much-needed level of skill to the band with his blues and southern rock influenced the style of playing. Shortly afterward they ran into long time friend Dalton Dennehy while picking guitars at a party who agreed to take over the bass for the band despite never playing one before. Quickly the band doubled in size, but still needed to find a drummer, which would prove to be an arduous. The band went through a handful of drummers that all ended up dropping out. One, in particular, had a decent practice studio set up in his garage, and despite the fact that he lived on the other side of San Antonio, his garage had air conditioning, and so the band would make the hour drive across town to practice on Sunday afternoons one summer. Since the drive was long, they would all meet up at Rusty and Darrell's house, and ride together. However, they were usually always mending hangovers from the previous night's events and found themselves waiting for hours on Hayden to show up, causing them to never be on time. After jokingly replying "Waitin' on Hayden" when asked several times what they were waiting on, the band decided that phrase could be a genuine and unique name for the group. Thus, the first form of Waitin' on Hayden was truely born.
