Atomar Bar & Lounge

Club Cohiba

Club Cohiba is a San Antonio club reminiscent of a better time in Cuba located under the historic Havana Riverwalk Inn. The basement bar and club allows a classy crowd to have an audible conversation over finely made drinks and cigars on the leather couches. Club Cohiba has a humidor with a great selection of cigars for the twenty-something to forty-something crowd to have their selection from. Since the hotel bar and lounge is Cuban themed, it's only appropriate they serve an array of tapas and make an exceptional mojito, both of which this San Antonio hotel bar does beautifully. The best time to hit Club Cohiba is during the weekday happy hour between 4pm and 7pm when food and drink prices become a tad more reasonable.

Club Rive

Four different night life hot spots in one downtown San Antonio club is what makes Club Rive one of the most exciting places on the River Walk. Three rooms host DJs while the Bubble Room has a stage for live entertainment nightly. In a room called TABU a live DJ spins top 40 and international variety as Rive's dancers gyrate on the bar. Over in the Sky Dome another DJ has more top 40 but also gets out the hip-hop and mixes in music videos for the partying crowds. The Hush Lounge is for the San Antonio folks who want a more relaxed environment with a hookah lounge and a third DJ playing techno, house and trance. Dick's Last Resort

Usually tourists are looking for restaurants and bars with friendly service and a taste of the local culture. Others apparently want to be annoyed and insulted by the wait staff while on vacation. Dick's Last Resort has several locations nationwide—usually in tourist heavy areas like San Antonio—where entrees come with insults. Locals don't seem as easily entertained when they're able to go to the bar regularly, but the restaurant is still packed almost every night thanks to its River Walk location. Later at night, live music gets going and so do the staff of bullies at the San Antonio bar. Beware of taking thin-skinned people to Dick's, but for those with a good sense of humor it can be a blast.

Durty Nelly's Irish Pub

Right on the San Antonio River Walk, Durty Nelly's Irish Pub is one of those classic old-fashioned pubs with peanut shells covering the floor and piano music for the drunkards to sing along. Known for having one of the best beer selections in San Antonio, the bar fills up fast regardless of the season as locals take the place of tourists in the off months. Durty Nelly's also offers outside seating, the perfect way to people-watch on the Riverwalk. Many folks come all the way to San Antonio just to drink and do sing-alongs at Nelly's Irish Pub.

Esquire Tavern

The longest wooden bar in Texas at 79 feet long is right in the most popular spot in San Antonio, the River Walk. The Esquire Tavern can fill with tourist in season and mariachis roam around trying to get money for songs. When it gets later in the night, the San Antonio crowd has known to be more rough around the edges and packed in tight at the Esquire Tavern which can always cause some friction. Esquire Tavern my be reminiscent of a time in the Old West when cowboys tipped their hats low and glared at any new meat but the bar is an amazing sight and the drinks are cheap at this San Antonio Riverwalk bar, just keep an eye out.

Howl at the Moon

There are plenty of places to drink on the San Antonio River Walk, but Howl at the Moon also offers a venue to sing along with the dueling pianos in a large room of people. The bar and live music club takes comedy, music and drinking to the next level to keep the crowd entertained. Various drink specials are offered nightly at San Antonio's Howl at the Moon with especially low prices for college students on Thursday nights and cheap drinks plus a free buffet Friday evening. They even offer specialty jello "shots" in plastic syringes and "tube shots" in plastic test tubes. Howl at the Moon is definitely a fun bar to hit up while on San Antonio's River Walk.

Jim Cullum's Landing

Inside the Hyatt Regency on the San Antonio River Walk, Jim Cullen's Landing has a glass enclosed landing specially constructed so that the live jazz performances wouldn't need amplifiers. Outside, when the weather is nice, jazz duos perform on the outside patio right on the River Walk. The Landing has a full bar and menu featuring true gourmet Texas style cuisine to go along with the live jazz. The patio and the dining room at the Landing are other fine locations to enjoy San Antonio's River Walk, live jazz, fine cuisine and a cold drink.

Mad Dogs British Pub

A menu of pub grub makes Mad Dogs San Antonio a great place to start bar hopping from because a bite to eat can be ordered with the first round of drinks. Naked Iguana

Right on the San Antonio River Walk, Naked Iguana is the bar and lounge for the Rio Rio Cantina, a Mexican themed restaurant. The Naked Iguana specializes in margaritas and south of the border drinks including cervezas—that's beer for non-Spanish speakers—and tequila shots. On Friday and Saturday nights the Naked Iguana can become quite the party spot on the River Walk with tourists and San Antonio locals swarming the bar for shots and fruity frozen drinks. On especially nice days, the patio seating is a great place to enjoy the lounge's 3pm-6pm happy hour.

Polly Esther's Culture Club

Featuring three levels of dancing and drinking, Polly Esther's Culture Club in San Antonio has nightly events and drink specials that will save even the biggest player a couple cents. Thursday nights are ladies' nights where only one level, Club Expo, is open but ladies get in free before 11pm and for a minimal cover charge after. Every night this San Antonio dance club plays the best of the '70s, '80s, '90s and today's best dance hits to a packed bar with different levels open depending on the night. When the "Purple Rain Dance Floor" is open, the drink menu for the '70s themed bar and dance floor includes The Brady Punch to get all those reliving the era in the mood to dance. On Thursday and Sunday nights, the Republic of Texas Restaurant has some of the liveliest karaoke on the River Walk.
